4 Hacks to live like a local in Nosara
It is very different to be in a place like a local rather than a tourist. Tourist life is great! You are on vacation, everything is new and exciting, there’s just a warm and happy feeling about each little thing that you do. Like falling in love for the first time, or dating right? But life as a local has its perks too. For example you know the real deals in town, you get discounts, you know the best activities and places to be and this is all golden information that any tourist would be grateful to have! So here we share with love to you some hacks from those of us who already went through the dating stage and decided to marry Nosara ;)
1. Farmers Market on Tuesdays
This is an organic market that takes place every Tuesday morning, at the center of Guiones town, 2 blocks down from Café de Paris towards the beach. Here you can find delicious premium and locally crafted products, such as vegan coconut yogurt, sunflower-seed dairy-free Parmesan, natural medicines, vegan pies amongst a wide selection of exquisite and healthy food. There are also fresh fruits and vegetables to pack your fridge for the week; and the best part is that most products here are cheaper than if you buy them any other day at the grocery stores of Guiones.
2. Taco Tuesdays at El Chivo
Yep, Tuesdays again! It turns out that this is the day when El Chivo Cantina at Playa Pelada, offers their famous tacos at only $3. We recommend the delicious vegetarian tacos that have falafel and a creamy tasty sauce; but you can also choose amongst other options like chicken, meat, tuna, baja fish or crispy pork belly tacos, which are amazing options if you are not vegetarian. Some important rules to know: the special deal only applies if you are eating at the restaurant, but not to go; and good news: The discount is open at any time of the day!
3. Saturday dance parties at La Casa
One of the big questions when visiting a new place is "What about the nightlife?" Nosara is not exactly a wild-on destination, because most people in the community are mindful surfers or yogis. However we sure know how to party when the time and mood is right! One of the best happenings of the week is the dance party at La Casa with DJ Chris Hawk. This is a glamorous outdoor garden-lounge, where you'll find a restaurant, a bar, 2 boutiques and of course, a dance floor! During the high season they host several cool events a week, such as brunch, concerts and dinners, but if you feel like dancing to house music and meeting some of the coolest people in town while having a world-class cocktail, you want to be there on a Saturday night! As Chris is playing his signature tribal-house beats, many dancers find their dream-dress while spinning around in the boutique and then back to the dance floor with their new outfits! The whole scenery is just like a musical play and an enchanted forest at the same time, or like an act of A Mid summer night’s dream.
4. Nosara's Fiestas
Several times a year Nosara hosts folkloric fiestas at Arenales or La Esperanza. This happening is similar to a fair, where you can find mechanical games, a bull-riding arena, fair-food and a big awning with a dance floor. The experience is not fancy at all, but it’s definitely a lot of fun! Most tourists don’t know about these parties, because you have to drive 15-20 minutes from Guiones or take a tuktuk; but if you want to have a local experience and party with the native people of Nosara, this is your chance!
Hopefully we’ve covered topics of your interest and now you know how to eat, party, grocery shop and have fun like a local; the best part is that with these hacks you will save some money and have memorable experiences. Are you ready to plan the rest of your trip?
